LEBEDEV Vladimir Vasilievich
People's Artist of the RSFSR. Corresponding Member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR
14 (26) .05.1891, Petersburg - 11/21/1967, Leningrad
He worked in Petersburg in the studio of FA Rubo and attended the drawing, painting and sculpture school of MD Bernstein and LV Sherwood (1910-1914), studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Petersburg (1912-1914). Member of the Society of Four Arts. Collaborated in the magazines "Satyricon", "New Satyricon". One of the organizers of the ROSTA Window in Petrograd. In the early 1920's, Lebedev worked in the poster department of the Petrograd "Window of GROWTH". The placard clarity has passed into the children's book illustration, which the artist has been engaged in since 1921.
At the turn of the 1920s-1930s, Lebedev's creative work showed a rejection of graphics in favor of painting, which is not without the influence of the changed demands of the time. In the 1930s, he worked on portraits and still lifes.
In 1931, several works of Lebedev were sharply criticized in the press, and five years later he, along with V.Konashevich, became the object of gross attacks in the article "On Painful Artists" (Pravda, 1936, March 1). The article, which served as a signal for the persecution of the Leningrad artists of the children's book, was part of a broad ideological campaign directed against a number of artists.
